Broadband in Manchester

Manchester

Not only does Manchester boast some of the biggest and best bands in the UK, there’s also loads of broadband packages to choose from, too. Here’s what’s available and how much you can expect to pay…

Compare deals

Yep, if you live in Manchester, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to broadband. However, it can be tricky to know which providers to go for, especially given the amount of options available.

With that in mind, read on to find out which providers operate in Manchester, and how to get the best deals…

What is broadband availability like in Manchester?

Overall, broadband availability in Manchester is pretty good.

In fact, according to a recent report from Ofcom, the majority of Greater Manchester can benefit from a superfast fibre connection.

In the city centre, however, superfast broadband isn’t as widely available. That said, overall, speeds are relatively impressive around the city centre.

Who are the best providers in Manchester?

As we say, if you live in Manchester, there’s plenty of broadband suppliers and packages to choose from – some exclusive to the city, and others who operate across the country.

When choosing the right package for you, though, there’s a few things you need to consider.

Unlimited downloads

When choosing a broadband package, remember some providers will limit how much you can download each month. This means that, if your family use lots of different gadgets at once, you could be faced with a hefty bill at the end of each month.

To that end, an unlimited broadband package could save you money as well as provide peace of mind.

Luckily, you’ll find unlimited packages from most of the UK’s biggest providers, and you can choose from the best ones using our handy comparison tool at the top of this page.

Conversely, if you only use the internet to check your emails and social media accounts from time to time, a package with download limits will be just fine.

Price

Although we don’t recommend that price be the main factor when choosing a broadband package, it’s still really important to consider.

So, once you know what type of package you need, you can filter down the best price using our comparison tool at the top of this page.

As one of Britain’s largest broadband providers, BT offers packages with average speeds of up to 67Mbps.

You’ll have four packages to choose from: BT broadband Unlimited, BT Superfast Fibre Essential, Superfast Fibre and Superfast Fibre 2. Plus, as a BT customer, you’ll get access to five million WiFi hotspots.

Virgin Media’s superfast broadband packages are available across Manchester and, unlike the majority of providers in the UK, it doesn’t rely on the Openreach network to deliver broadband into your home.

Instead, Virgin Media uses its own unique infrastructure, which makes it one of the fastest broadband providers in the UK. Indeed, average speeds on its packages start at 50Mbps and go all the way up to a whopping 362Mbps.

And if it’s a broadband and TV bundle you’re after, Virgin Media’s TiVo triple includes BT Sport as well as premium Sky TV channels if you opt for them. Problem is, it’s far from the cheapest provider. If you want to save money, you’d be better off looking at Plusnet or TalkTalk.

Sky Broadband

As the UK's second most popular broadband provider, Sky has a plethora of packages to choose from and, like BT, is available across Manchester.

It’s packages are impressive, too, with unlimited and super-fast fibre packages on offer, as well as loads of Wi-Fi hotspots in the city.

Moreover, its line rental is fairly cheap compared to most providers and the VIP loyalty scheme offers some neat freebies.

And, if you’re part of a large family – perhaps in a household with children or film buffs, Sky’s TV offerings are second to none. And you’ll often find some brilliant deals available too.

If you’re looking for an affordable broadband supplier in Manchester, you won’t find much better than TalkTalk.

Its service is reasonably priced, reliable, and boasts superfast broadband packages that are ideal for streaming movies and playing games online.

We’re also big fans of all the regular exclusive offers available, too, and there’s loads of special TV deals to choose from to boot.

Lastly, if you take out one of its broadband, TV or phone packages, you’ll be able to add extra TV channels and cancel them whenever you want – with no fuss or bother.
