Apple unveiled the iPhone 8 in September 2017, alongside the big-screened iPhone 8 Plus and the special anniversary edition iPhone X. The lowest-priced of the lot, however, was this one - the regular iPhone 8. Here's all you need to know about it, including how to get a contract deal at the best price.
What is the iPhone 8 like?
Screen
Like the 6s and 7 models before it, the iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch display, complete with a HD resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels. It's nice and clear and bright.
Camera
The camera on the back of the iPhone 8 has a 12MP lens, plus autofocus, OIS (optical image stabilisation), and quad-LED flash. As per most iPhones, it's easy and effortless to take high-quality photos. The selfie camera on the front, meanwhile, has a high-res 7MP lens.
Performance
The processors on the 8 are a clear step ahead from all the previous iPhones. It's packing a six-core A11 'bionic' chipset, which guarantees brilliantly fast performance.
Battery
Apple's cagey about the exact capacity of the phone's battery, but rest assured it'll last you all day. And, unlike older iPhones, it's enabled for wireless charging.
Features
Here's what else the iPhone 8 has got:
- Gorgeous design, full of shiny glass and aluminium
- Touch ID and Apple Pay
- Up to 256GB storage
- Siri
- Water-resistant
- Pressure-sensitive 3D Touch screen
iPhone 8 pay monthly contracts
iPhones are very popular phones, which is good news for you as it means a huge number of mobile networks offer deals on them - including EE, Three, O2, Vodafone, and more. It also means you have plenty of choice over allowances and tariffs on the iPhone 8.
All budgets are catered to as well - you can pay lots upfront and enjoy lower bills for the next two years if you like, or even grab a deal with no upfront cost at all.
And of course you'll find early-upgrade deals from certain networks - like O2 Refresh plans - and special offers for existing customers.
What's the best price on an iPhone 8?
The iPhone 8 is a little costly to buy outright, so we'd recommend going for a contract plan to spread the cost out a bit.
The best way to find the cheapest iPhone 8 deal for you is to compare your options above. Filter the deals down to only show ones that suit you, and sort the grid by total cost to see the lowest-priced ones at the top.
You can also keep costs down by:
- Choosing a lower allowance
- Picking a budget network - smaller ones like iD Mobile are usually cheaper than big ones
- Getting a refurbished handset
- Buying through a reseller
- Looking out for existing customer deals
The filters on the grid will also let you set limits on how much you can pay, both per month and upfront today.
What's good about the iPhone 8?
- Incredibly fast and powerful
- Cool design
- Water-resistant
- Lots of internal storage
What's bad about the iPhone 8?
- No headphone jack
- Bigger and higher-res screens available on other iPhones
- Expensive
