Google Pixel 8 Pro at a glance
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is a stellar phone, the best Google has ever produced as of 2023.
With a striking 6.7-inch display, hugely upgraded triple lens camera, a massive 5,000 mAh battery and support for Android updates for seven years, it’s taken Google’s Pixel range to the next level.
Plus, with a new Tensor 3 chipset keeping things ticking, it’s a proper rival for the iPhone 15 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Google Pixel 8 Pro Availability
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is available to buy from 12 October 2023, with prices starting at £999 for a SIM-free 128GB model at launch. There are also 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models.
Google Pixel 8 Pro Design
The Google Pixel 8 Pro features a similar design to the Pixel 8, with a neat metal finish and contoured edges. Its vast 6.7-inch screen puts it in the same bracket as the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The display has a resolution of 1344 x 2992 pixels, with a top brightness rating of 2,400 nits. The screen uses LTPO tech, which Google calls Super Actua. Essentially, it’s highly impressive and promises to be immersive for gamers in particular.
The all-screen front has a punch hole selfie camera, while the classic camera band on the back doesn’t feel intrusive or take away from the overall finish.
Google Pixel 8 Pro Camera
Google has always delivered when it comes to cameras. But the Pixel 8 Pro really kicks things on. It has a triple lens setup that promises to be every bit as good as those offered by Samsung and Apple.
The main 50MP lens is the same as that on the Pixel 8, meaning much better low light images. But the 48MP ultrawide lens cranks things up a notch with amazing macro smarts, while the additional 48MP telephoto serves up a hefty 5x optical zoom, ensuring you get detailed close ups with no nasty blurring.
There are extras features too, including AI-powered Best Take for bringing across faces from multiple images to create one perfect shot. A new Video Boost function gives videos taken on the Pixel 8 Pro professional processing skills, allowing for better colour adjustments, lighting and stabilisation.
The front-facing 10.5MP camera also has autofocus to deliver perfect selfies every time.
What’s the difference between the Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Google Pixel 7 Pro?
The Pixel 8 Pro takes things on from the Pixel 7 Pro in some major ways. The new camera is a major boost on its predecessor, thanks to better low light performance, AI-assisted functionality and a greater overall package.
The screen is brighter too, while the new Tensor 3 chipset is a big boost when it comes to performance. Throw in Android updates for seven years, some four more than were promised for the Pixel 7 Pro, and you’re looking at a real winner of a phone.
Is Google Pixel 8 Pro worth buying now?
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is Google’s best smartphone and, if you want an Android phone that will get the best new software before devices from rivals like Samsung, is a great option. Its camera is incredible, while its design is sharp too.
Arguably its biggest selling point is the fact it has long term software support. Its price may not be cheaper than the iPhone 15 Pro, but it’s every inch a proper rival for Apple’s latest greatest.
Can I get the Google Pixel 8 Pro with poor credit?
Getting a Pixel 8 Pro with poor credit can be tricky, as networks carry out credit checks on long term contracts.
To snag one, you’ll need to buy it outright, without a SIM, and then pair your Pixel 8 Pro with a 30-day SIM only deal. The good news is the latter offer great value and do not require credit checks from most networks. Sadly though, that will mean having to find the initial amount to buy the phone.
