Availability and price

The Samsung Galaxy A54 went on sale in the UK on 17 March 2023.

Prices were £449 for the 128GB model, and £499 for 256GB.

Design

For starters, the Galaxy A54 has a new and refined design that takes inspiration from the main S23 line.

Moving away from the protruding camera bump of the Galaxy A53, the Galaxy A54 goes for a more streamlined approach. Now, the three camera lenses are individually housed in their own separate units, aligning the Galaxy A54 more closely with the Galaxy S23 series. There’s also a hole punch selfie camera on the front.

Both the front and back of the phone are crafted from Gorilla Glass 5, making it strong and resilient against drops and scratches. It also marks a departure from the plastic that’s normally used in the Galaxy A series.

It comes in four “Awesome” colours: Awesome Graphite, Awesome White, Awesome Lime and Awesome Violet. The latter two are particularly eye-catching, and help to distinguish the A54 from the S23.

Camera

Another area that sees some noteworthy upgrades is the camera system. For the Galaxy A54, Samsung has opted for three lenses rather than four, as well as a new 50MP main camera instead of the A53’s 64MP shooter.

While this might seem like a downgrade on paper, in reality it’s a clear improvement. The 50MP lens comes with a larger sensor and better optical image stabilisation; not to mention, autofocus is snappier and on par with flagship-level devices. As a result, the A54 produces brighter and sharper snaps, particularly in low-light and night photography.

Plus, video shooting is smoother and clearer than ever, thanks to the enhanced Video Digital Image Stabilisation.

Specs

Looking at its specs sheet, the Samsung Galaxy A54 certainly stacks up to be an impressive phone. In fact, it has many features that are on par with flagships – and in some cases, it’s even better.

Firstly, it packs a sizeable 5,000mAh battery, meaning it’ll comfortably last for up to two days on a single charge. That’s very commendable, and puts it ahead of the Galaxy S23 and even the S23 Plus.

Furthermore, Samsung has promised four years of major operating system updates, as well as five years of security updates. That’s the same level of support offered to Samsung flagships, so it’s very welcome news – particularly if you plan on using your phone for a good while.

There’s even microSD card support, allowing you to expand your phone’s storage up to a whopping 1TB.

Can I get the Samsung Galaxy A54 with no upfront cost?

Maybe, depending on the network. Phone contracts for the latest phones usually come with an upfront cost, so it’s likely that you’ll have to pay this with the Galaxy A54.

Still, there’s a chance some networks are offering the Galaxy A54 with no upfront cost. Use our table at the top of this page to see what’s on offer.

Is the Samsung Galaxy A54 worth buying in 2025?

At the time of writing, the Galaxy A54 is Samsung’s latest release. If you’re eager to get your hands on the latest piece of tech, it’s certainly worth buying now – particularly if you want to make the most of the four years’ worth of software updates.

On the flip side, waiting a while can bring down the cost. Phones almost always drop in price when a newer one is released. So, if you’re in no rush to upgrade just yet, you could wait until next year to get it for cheaper.

What’s the difference between Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53?

These days, improvements between phone releases can seem rather iterative. So, it’s refreshing that the Galaxy A54 presents a few substantial upgrades from its predecessor, including:

  • New design that looks and feels premium, bringing it more in line with the flagship S23 set
  • Upgraded camera system and improved low-light photography and video
  • New Exynos 1380 chip, meaning faster and more powerful all-round performance

What’s the cheapest way to get a Samsung Galaxy A54?

The cheapest way of getting the Samsung Galaxy A54 is to buy it outright and take out a SIM-only deal. True, it’s a big amount to pay in one go. But it’ll almost certainly work out cheaper in the long term than a pay-monthly phone contract.

Still, spreading the cost of a new phone over 12 to 24 months is often the most manageable option. And you can often score some tempting deals, such as contracts that come with extra perks or free gifts.

Can I get the Samsung Galaxy A54 with poor credit?

When you sign up for a phone contract, the network will normally perform a credit check before accepting you. This is because they want to ensure you’ll be able to commit to the contract and pay off the cost of the handset.

Each network’s criteria differs slightly, so it’s hard to say the exact rating you should have. That said, you likely won’t be accepted if you have a low credit rating. In which case, it’d be better to buy the Galaxy A54 outright and get a cheap SIM-only deal.
