Samsung's 2023 flip phone is....well, flippin' great.
If you’re looking for something a little different, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 might be for you. It’s a foldable phone that opens like a make-up mirror, making it smaller (and more affordable) that most foldables. We’ve rounded up the best Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 deals so you can pick one up on a contract that’s right for you.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 at a glance
- Android 13 – The Z Flip5 runs the latest version of the Android operating system, giving you access to all the best apps and games
- Samsung extras – It also comes with Samsung’s own extras like Knox security software
- Cameras – The Z Flip5 has dual 12MP cameras (one wide-angle, the other ultra-wide for capturing landscapes) as well as a 10MP front-facer for selfies
- Battery – Its battery should last a whole day’s use, but it’s smaller than a typical smartphone’s so won’t last as long
- External screen – The external screen is much bigger than the Z Flip4’s, and much more useful
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 opens like a make-up mirror – a classic ‘clamshell’ design. It has a 3.4-inch screen on the outside with a resolution of 720 x 748 pixels. This is much larger than the 1.9-inch external screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, and means you don’t have to open the phone up for quick things like replying to messages or seeing notifications.
Open it up and you get a much larger 6.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2640 pixels. This is for more concentrated use, like web browsing, social media, playing games and so on.
It folds up small enough to fit in most pockets or even a small clutch bag, which could be handy if you’re sick of carrying around a massive smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Camera
The Galaxy Z Flip5 has the same camera arrangement as the Z Flip4: dual 12MP wide and ultra-wide shooters, partnered with a 10MP selfie snapper. But because the external screen is much bigger, it’s a better viewfinder, allowing you to see what you’re shooting in much more detail.
You can swipe the external screen to switch between photography modes (portrait, photo or video). And because the Z Flip5 can flip open and stand up on its own, it can become its own tripod for hands-free shots.
What’s the difference between the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is very similar to the Z Flip4, but with some key differences. The main one is the external screen, which is much bigger – and so more useful – on the Z Flip5.
The Z Flip5 also has a new hinge that doesn’t have a gap when closed, making it less likely that dust and debris will get in and damage the phone. And there are minor software improvements courtesy of Android 13 and Samsung’s own One UI software.
But it has the same cameras, same IPX8 dust and water resistance, and same battery as its predecessor.
Is Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 worth buying now?
Samsung’s other new foldable, the Z Fold5, is bigger, more powerful and more expensive. It also opens like a book, rather than the clamshell design of the Z Flip5.
The Motorola Razr 40 is a very similar proposition to the Z Flip5, with the same clamshell design. Its external and internal screens are slightly bigger than the Z Flip5’s, and its cameras more powerful (though Samsung has a better track record in terms of photo quality from its cameras). It costs about the same, too.
Because the Z Flip5 is part of the niche category of foldable phones, its price is unlikely to drop much anytime soon (the Z Flip4 still sells for its original launch price). So you’re probably better off taking out a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 contract.
Can I get the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 with poor credit?
You can if you buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 outright, as this won’t involve a credit check. You could then take a cheap SIM-only deal, which also doesn’t require a credit check.
If you’re unable to afford the phone outright, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 pay monthly with poor credit, as it’s one of the more expensive handsets available.
