Plusnet (www.plus.net) is stretching its feelers out into the world of TV in the form of our good friend YouView. Right now, it’s only available to existing customers.
To get Plusnet TV, you have to renew your contract for another 18 months. You’ll then have the choice of a regular YouView set top box, which lets you watch over 70 free-to-air TV and radio channels - 10 of which are HD - as well as pause and rewind live TV.
Or, you can go for the higher-end YouView+ box, so you can also record up to 300 hours of standard definition telly. Both have access to seven days of catch up too, from the big on demand services like BBC iPlayer and 4OD.
YouView is also known for its user-friendly and accessible interface. All those programmes on catch up can be found just by scrolling back on the TV guide, and you can search by genre, turn on subtitles or audio description easily, and zoom in on text to read it better.

With Plusnet, you can snag a few telly extras. You’ll get 20 more premium entertainment channels as standard, including Comedy Central, Discovery, Eurosport, MTV, and Syfy.
And if that’s not enough, Plusnet’s got ‘channel packs’ too. They include Entertainment, Kids channel pack, and the HD pack.
And of course, you can get BT Sport. The BT Sport 1 channel on its own is available free of charge, or you can upgrade to the full pack for a - surprisingly low - monthly fee.
The pack's available if you have either a Plusnet TV box, or an old Sky box, viewing card, and satellite dish along with Plusnet broadband.
YouView
Unfortunately, there's still a long way to go before Plusnet TV is available to the rest of us. But if you like the sound of YouView, and want to get some extra channels and services from it too, we recommend comparing the TV packages from BT (www.bt.com) and TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk).
With BT TV you get extra entertainment channels on YouView as standard, as well as cheap (or even free) BT Sport, and you can subscribe to ‘Bolt-ons’ for more channels or on demand services. Take a look at our guide for the lowdown.
Similarly, TalkTalk TV has ‘Boosts’ to offer, so you can get bundles of channels added to your package. These include sports, music, kids' TV, Sky Cinema… the whole shebang. Read our full guide to find out the details.
