Big Bundles and Oomph packages both get you super fast speeds. But what’s the difference? Are Oomph deals worth the extra outlay? We take a close look at what they’ve got to offer to help you make your mind up.

Big Bundles vs Oomph: what’s the difference?

Whether you sign up for a Big Bundle or a Big Oomph Bundle, all Virgin Media broadband packages get you superfast broadband, a V6 set top box with a selection of channels and a phone line with inclusive calls at the weekend.

They also allow you to sign up for extra TV channels, in the form of themed add-ons that Virgin Media calls 'Packs'.

However, there are some critical differences that mark out Oomph bundles as Virgin Media’s top-of-the-range packages. These are:

  • Oomph bundles offer faster broadband than Big Bundles.
  • Oomph bundles include a Virgin Media SIM card with a monthly allowance of data, calls and texts.
  • Oomph bundles include a service guarantee that’s intended to keep you online in the event of an outage with Virgin Media’s fibre broadband network.

Virgin Media Big Bundle deals

The Big Bundle is Virgin Media’s cheapest broadband, TV and home phone package. It combines super-fast broadband with a decent selection of TV channels.

However if you want the most premium sports, movies and entertainment channels, you’ll need to sign up for add-ons.

Key features are:

  • More than 110 channels
  • 213Mbps average speed
  • V6 box
  • Landline with inclusive weekend and calls
  • 12-month contract

Virgin Media Bigger Bundle deals

Virgin Media’s Bigger Bundle gets you the same broadband speed as the Big Bundle, but adds alot more channels.

More importantly, you’ll get premium channels, such as BT Sport Ultimate, Sky One, Fox and ESPN.

Key features include:

  • More than 150 channels
  • 213Mbps
  • V6 box
  • Landline with inclusive weekend calls
  • 12-month contract

Virgin Media Big Oomph bundle deals

The cheapest Oomph bundle it may be, but this package still offers average broadband speeds that are five times faster than BT or Sky’s fastest widely available fibre broadband.

The 4G SIM and service guarantee also set it apart from the standard Big Bundle.

Key features include:

  • 110 channels
  • 362Mbps broadband
  • V6 set top box
  • Landline with evening and inclusive weekend calls
  • 4G SIM with 2GB of data

Bigger Oomph bundle deals

Includes a better and broader selection of TV channels than the Big Oomph Bundle, with the same super-fast broadband service.

Key features include:

  • More than 220 channels
  • 362Mbps broadband
  • V6 set top box
  • Landline with evening and inclusive weekend calls
  • 4G SIM with 2GB data

Ultimate Oomph bundle deals

The top-of-the-range Ultimate Oomph package isn’t cheap. But gets you premium channels, such as Sky Sports, BT Sport Ultimate, Sky One and more.

The catch is that the 516Mbps broadband service isn’t anything like as widely available as Virgin Media’s slower bundles.

Key features include:

  • More than 270 channels
  • 516Mbps
  • 2 V6 set top boxes for multi-room viewing
  • Landline with anytime calls
  • 4G SIM with unlimited data

Virgin Media vs Sky TV bundles

virgin media vs sky

Virgin Media and Sky bundles both have a lot to recommend them and are fairly comparably priced.

Virgin Media’s broadband is faster. But Sky probably edges it for TV, if only for the breadth of channels on offer.

Pros of Virgin Media bundles

  • 12-month contracts, while Sky’s are 18-months
  • UK’s fastest widely available fibre broadband
  • Well regarded Virgin Media V6 box supplied with all packages

Cons of Virgin Media bundles

  • Broadband isn’t as widely available as Sky
  • Good selection of channels, but not as wide as Sky

Pros of Sky TV and broadband bundles

  • Full selection of Sky channels
  • Sky VIP customer rewards scheme is a good incentive
  • Sky Q is perhaps the best set top box on the market
  • Consistently highly rated for customer service

Cons of Sky bundles

  • Minimum 18-month contract is a fairly long commitment
  • You’ll need to install a satellite dish to get Sky TV
