Big Bundles vs Oomph: what’s the difference?

Whether you sign up for a Big Bundle or a Big Oomph Bundle, all Virgin Media broadband packages get you superfast broadband, a V6 set top box with a selection of channels and a phone line with inclusive calls at the weekend.

They also allow you to sign up for extra TV channels, in the form of themed add-ons that Virgin Media calls 'Packs'.

However, there are some critical differences that mark out Oomph bundles as Virgin Media’s top-of-the-range packages. These are:

• Oomph bundles offer faster broadband than Big Bundles.
• Oomph bundles include a Virgin Media SIM card with a monthly allowance of data, calls and texts.
• Oomph bundles include a service guarantee that’s intended to keep you online in the event of an outage with Virgin Media’s fibre broadband network.

Virgin Media Big Bundle deals

The Big Bundle is Virgin Media’s cheapest broadband, TV and home phone package. It combines super-fast broadband with a decent selection of TV channels.

However if you want the most premium sports, movies and entertainment channels, you’ll need to sign up for add-ons.

Virgin Media Bigger Bundle deals

Virgin Media’s Bigger Bundle gets you the same broadband speed as the Big Bundle, but adds alot more channels.

The cheapest Oomph bundle it may be, but this package still offers average broadband speeds that are five times faster than BT or Sky’s fastest widely available fibre broadband.

Ultimate Oomph bundle deals

The catch is that the 516Mbps broadband service isn’t anything like as widely available as Virgin Media’s slower bundles.

Virgin Media vs Sky TV bundles

Virgin Media and Sky bundles both have a lot to recommend them and are fairly comparably priced.

Virgin Media’s broadband is faster. But Sky probably edges it for TV, if only for the breadth of channels on offer.

• Sky Q is perhaps the best set top box on the market
• Consistently highly rated for customer service

Cons of Sky bundles

• Minimum 18-month contract is a fairly long commitment
• You’ll need to install a satellite dish to get Sky TV
