Cuckoo broadband: everything you need to know

Cuckoo broadband logo

Want a broadband provider that's free of complexity? Cuckoo have you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about their fast broadband packages.

About Cuckoo

Cuckoo is a small, upstart broadband provider that's committed to offering easy-to-understand broadband packages for a very reasonable price.

Unlike larger providers, which increasingly lock customers into deals that last as long as 24 months, Cuckoo offers one month rolling contracts, as well as 12 month packages.

Its plans feature decent speeds and are competitively priced, while its customer service gets superb ratings online.

And if that’s not enough, it donates 1% of every bill to its Cuckoo Compass charity, aimed at improving internet access for those who need it the most.

What broadband deals can I get from Cuckoo?

Cuckoo offers three broadband deals: Fast, Really Fast and Eggceptional.

Fast comes in at £29.99 a month and clocks in at up to 80Mbps, with a 67Mbps average speed.

Really Fast costs £39.99 and reaches speeds up to 115Mbps with an average download speed of 100Mbps, while Eggceptional will set you back £54.99 per month for 900Mbps.

Really Fast and Eggceptional use the latest fibre to the premises (FTTP) tech, while Fast is a fibre plan that completes the last leg into the home over copper wiring.

Each option is available on either a one-month, rolling contract or a 12-month plan. If you choose the one-month deal, you’ll need to pay £60 in order to get set up.

Cuckoo waives that fee for 12-month contract customers. Cuckoo promises that prices won’t rise once your contract ends, too.

All customers will be sent a 4G dongle when they sign up, meaning they can get online using Cuckoo’s ‘Eggspress’ WiFi service within 24 hours.

Customers can choose to return the dongle at no extra cost once their broadband is set up, or keep the dongle for £40.

Which are the best Cuckoo broadband deals?

All three Cuckoo broadband deals are superb, but if you live in an area where FTTP has been installed, it’s hard to look beyond its Eggceptional plan.

At £54.99 a month it’s better value than Sky, Virgin Media and Vodafone for their equivalent 900Mbps services.

The fact you can also get it on a rolling contract is exceptional. 30 day deals tend to be extremely expensive or impossible to get, suggesting Cuckoo has the ability to truly disrupt the broadband market.

How reliable is Cuckoo broadband?

Anecdotally, Cuckoo broadband is very reliable, with customer service reviews highlighting its impressive service. Because it’s a small, new provider, it does not yet show up on the latest Ofcom reports into broadband reliability.

Can I bundle Cuckoo broadband with TV?

Unfortunately, you cannot bundle Cuckoo broadband with a TV deal. If you want a package with TV and broadband, you’ll need to look to providers like Sky, TalkTalk and BT.

Can I get a landline with Cuckoo broadband?

Although Cuckoo’s packages require you to have a phone line, it does not offer landline services. These days that’s not a massive dealbreaker, as most mobile phone packages include unlimited packages.

Those who want a landline are best going with traditional providers like BT and TalkTalk.

Can I get Cuckoo fibre optic broadband?

All of Cuckoo broadband’s deals use fibre optic tech. While its Fast service uses ‘fibre to the cabinet’, meaning the last part of the journey to your home uses older copper wiring, its Really Fast and Eggceptional plans use FTTP.

The latter isn’t widely available yet but means you can get fibre optic broadband right into the home.

What speeds can I get with Cuckoo broadband?

Cuckoo broadband offers three speeds:

  • Fast, 80Mbps - average speeds of 67Mbps
  • Really Fast 115Mbps - average speeds of 100Mbps
  • Eggceptional - average speeds up to 900Mbps
